Light

Here I am up early again. 5 am today, so I am slowly getting into a more regular schedule. There is something special about the early morning, I am convinced of it. I sat outside and listened to the multitude of birds chirping as if to proclaim to all creation that this is a new day and the mercies of the Sovereign God are new. Their songs lifted my spirits and turned my thoughts to my own declaration of who He is and what He has done for me. I have been a little down as I look at my family interacting with each other and seeing the broken relationships and bitterness and hopelessness there. With my natural eyes I don't see how anything can change, but when my thoughts turned to the Almighty God this morning I looked at the horizon and saw how the darkness could not stay when the light was coming. The sun was not even up, it was still on its way, but the darkness was already fading into the light of morning. It happens so slowly that you don't even realize it until, BAM! the sun is up. I ponder this in the context of Isaiah 58 where we are told that if we fast according to the Lord, in a way that is pleasing to Him then our light will break forth like the dawn and our night shall be as noonday. God's word is more real than what I see around me and no matter how menacing and complete the darkness looks, all it takes is a little light to ruin it. When a light is turned on in a dark room, the darkness does not fight and claw to stay, rather it is immediately banished. What areas do we need to see light shine in our own lives? If we would ask that question and believe that God knows what we need before we ourselves do then our perspective on things would change. O that we would allow His light to shine through our lives to those who are walking down a path of sin and darkness that their feet would walk down the path of salvation and peace! Let me not cover the light with a bowl, keeping it from affecting the world around me! Amen.

It is interesting that you would bring the subject of light up as I was just pondering a well known verse about light. We all know it. The word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path (Psalm 119:105). Think about it literally. If you have a lamp at your feet you can see where you are standing but not where you are going. On the reverse side if you have a light unto your path than you can see where you are going but not where you are standing. It is necessary to have both the lamp and the light so we can see where we stand before God and others but also to see clearly where God is leading us. I am so glad that you wrote about that, Nick. I really wanted to share that revelation. By using the word we are given instruction on just where to stand and exactly where we are to go as far as the way we live, think, and act.

Wow, Nick and Brianne both your observations are so spot on and insightful.
Brianne I especially like your illustrations of God's light showing us just where we are and where we are going - I kinda just alluded both metaphors into meaning the same thing but you definitely have given me a new perspective on that verse which I think I needed.
I have my problems with faith and believing that God will light my path, wanting to be active in His plans and not uncomfortable with not knowing what will happen in the future.
Alrighty, right now its storming something aweful over here, everlasting good ones and I'll catchyall tomm!
